14 of 16 people found the following review helpful OK graphics card; struggles with 1080p mkv, By This review is from: EVGA GeForce GT 520 1024 MB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 DVI/HDMI/VGA Graphics Card, 01G-P3-1521-KR (Personal Computers) I bought this for a 4-year-old Gateway PC (AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+/4GB DDR2 RAM). I earlier had a 256MB ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO graphics card in the PC, with the DVI hooked up to my 1080p monitor and the VGA hooked up to my 1080p HDTV. While image quality was pretty good on both, there was very noticeable frame-slicing when watching high-def content using VLC on my HDTV. My earlier SDTV did not have this issue when I had it hooked up to the s-video port on the graphics card. Obviously the ATI card was no match for 2 1080p displays (in extended desktop mode). Not surprising, since the card is at least 3 years old and was entry level even back then. This GT 520 is entry level as well, but also draws very low power (29W), which is important since I don't plan to upgrade the 300W stock PSU on my PC. I was happy to note that it drives both my displays (monitor and TV) with ease, and I can happily browse on the monitor while the TV is playing 720p MKV files without any... Sound card issues, By Rich Mc (Flemington, NJ United States) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: EVGA GeForce GT 520 1024 MB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 DVI/HDMI/VGA Graphics Card, 01G-P3-1521-KR (Personal Computers) Everything seems to be working OK now, but the installation of this card was problematic. Here's why: After installing the EVGA GeForce GT 520, I lost the onboard audio to my HP desktop (running XP Pro). In the sound resources of the Control Panel, the NVIDIA High Definition Audio became the default and my Realtek High Definition Audio disappeared. Solution: If the onboard audio is set to "Auto" in the BIOS, the motherboard will automatically disable the onboard audio if it detects another audio device (in this case the NVIDIA) in your computer. If you change your onboard audio setting to "enable" this will not happen, and you will get your sound back. I did have to reinstall the Realtek driver.Price from Amazon was great and shipping was very fast. 5 of 6 people found the following review helpful Works for what I needed it for., By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: EVGA GeForce GT 520 1024 MB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 DVI/HDMI/VGA Graphics Card, 01G-P3-1521-KR (Personal Computers) I purchased this card to replace my fathers, in his HP m8120n entertainment PC. Works great, way better than the stock one. I would recommend this card for someone with a stock power supply. |
